African American Studies Program Alumni and Friends Essay Contest Winners Announced

On behalf of the African American Studies Program, Dr. Mary Anne Boelcskevy, Chair of the African American Studies Program Alumni and Friends Essay Competition Selection Committee, extends her congratulations  to:

Jailyn Gladney (CAS ’16), the Undergraduate Prize winner for her essay, War: How “Black” and “Criminal” Became Synonymized in the Era of Mass Incarceration.

Channon Miller (GRS ’16), the Graduate Prize winner for her essay, Mothering Across Fragmented Borders of Blackness: Cross-Ethnic Ties Among African Immigrant, Caribbean Immigrant and African American Mothers

The prizes will be awarded at the African American Studies Convocation on Saturday, May 17th at 4:00 pm.
