Major Smith

MAJOR DENNIS M. SMITH

Major Smith is the Commandant of Cadets, Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps, Detachment 355, Boston University.  In this capacity, Major Smith is responsible for recruiting, teaching, supervising, and evaluating the performance of the 55 AFROTC cadets currently enrolled at the detachment.

Major Smith is an Army brat that calls El Paso, Texas home. He enlisted in the USAF shortly after graduating high school in 1988.  He entered basic training in November 1988 and graduated from technical training in logistics management from Lowery AFB, CO in April 1989. He served enlisted for 12 ½ years achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant while assigned to various positions in the logistics career field. His deployment experiences includes Manama and Shaikh Isa Air Base, Bahrain (97), BRIGHT STAR, Cairo Egypt (97), IRAQI FREEDOM, Baghdad, Iraq (06), and ENDURING FREEDOM, Southwest Asia (08, 09).

Upon receiving his commission from Officer Training School, as a Communications and Information officer in 2002, Major Smith was assigned various positions at the 355th Communications Squadron and served as the Executive Officer to the 355th Mission Support Group Commander at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Flight Commander, Air and Space Operations Center, Weapon System Fielding at Hanscom AFB, MA, where he led a 42 member team to install and sustain Command and Control Systems for $1.3B Air & Space Operations Centers at 30 sites worldwide.

His military decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), and the Air Force Achievement Medal with one OLC.

Major Smith is married to the former Alison Marshall of Banbury, England.  They have three children, Emily (19), Loren (17) and Nicholas (6).
