History embraces the sum of the human experience—politics, economy, religion, art, ideas, culture, social structures, and science. You will learn to consider multiple points of view and changing global contexts. History majors regularly go on to law school, graduate programs in museum and preservation studies or public history, or careers in business, publishing, or media.

As a political science major, you’ll study how political communities attempt to reconcile claims of justice, power, liberty, and authority. Drawing on topics like history, law, and psychology, political science shares the traditional aims of a liberal arts education while trying to understand the major public issues of our time. Our political science majors go on to have careers in fields such as education, government, journalism, and business. Many students also pursue graduate degrees in law and public administration.
Explore the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering in courses such as statics and dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, structures, material science, instrumentation, and design. You’ll cap off your undergraduate experience with the Senior Design Project, a year-long, hands-on, team-driven project that challenges you to design and prototype a product, electronic device, or software system to solve real-world challenges.
While pre-medicine is not a major at BU, there are many academic pathways you can pursue to fulfill requirements for medical school admission. Consider chemistry, physics, biology, or psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences; human physiology, health science, or nutrition in the College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College; or biomedical engineering in the College of Engineering. The Pre-Professional Advising Office will provide guidance on what courses to take and the medical school application process.

Who gets into BU? And who thrives? The academic profile will give you an idea, but students here are greater than the sum of their SAT scores. Our community is incredibly diverse. But students share many traits: They’re smart, ambitious, looking to understand the world, develop their own innovations, form novel research questions, and proactively seek out new experiences.See a Day in the Life
