Boston University established the Trustee Scholarship
Competition in 1975 to recognize outstanding academic performance
and leadership ability. Covering full tuition and mandatory
fees for four years, the Scholarship quickly forged a special
community of accomplished students who have an impact on University
life that goes well beyond their academic profile.
"Being a Trustee Scholar has always conferred both an honor
and an opportunity," says Elizabeth Shannon, the Trustee
Scholar Program advisor. "It recognizes early excellence
and accomplishment, but extends the invitation--and expectation--that
the student will continue to act as a leader once he or she
arrives on campus."
As undergraduates, Trustee Scholars are indeed active in almost
every corner of the University--from service and student organizations
to tutoring programs, student government, and academics.
The Trustee Scholar Program is open to high school seniors from around the world and provides outstanding students with
a unique educational experience in the University's undergraduate
Schools and
Colleges. Trustee Scholars come to pursue many dreams. They
want to become journalists, teachers, musicians, computer scientists,
electrical engineers, and business people. They want to be challenged
by their professors and peers alike.
Boston University will welcome approximately 30 outstanding
students to the Trustee Scholars program this fall. By any measure,
Trustee Scholars are an academically gifted group of students.
They are typically at the top of their high school classes—many
with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Their average score on
the SAT is 2289. The average ACT score is 35. On average,
this year's Trustee Scholars had a high school GPA of 3.96.
(This profile does not constitute a statement of eligibility criteria.)
Trustee Scholars also have a record of volunteer service within
their communities, and a proven history as leaders, both within
and beyond the classroom. They have founded or participated in service
organizations at the local, national, and even
international levels.
They have founded student clubs and distinguished themselves in the fine and performing arts,
athletics, and other competitions.
