With one of the largest international student populations of any American university, Boston University embodies the diversity that has shaped the character of our nation. Our students come from nearly 100 countries.
If you’re a prospective BU student from abroad, we hope you’ll take advantage of the many resources we offer.
The International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) is dedicated to helping international students with concerns about immigration, employment, housing, finances and other issues. You can call on ISSO for everything from academics and personal adjustment to visas and job interviewing techniques. The office also sponsors a variety of intercultural events, such as the spring World Fair.
The Center for English Language & Orientation Programs (CELOP) offers you the most advanced methods of intensive English language instruction. Visit CELOP’s multilingual site for more information.
For details about applying to Boston University, please see our International Student information in the Apply section of our website. It covers eligibility, secondary school credentials and credit, English language proficiency requirements, financial documentation and VISA/SEVIS information—for freshmen and for transfer students.
Financial aid is not available to international students. However, we do offer merit scholarships for international students.
Finally, we invite you to participate in our many student cultural organizations, available through the Student Activities Office.
