  Sports & Fitness
Sporting activities at Boston University are like everything else here—not overblown extravaganzas, just a great way to stay fit, meet other people, and cheer on your friends and classmates. The University's 22 varsity teams and more than 35 intramural and club sports provide plenty of action for everybody who wants to get involved on or off the field.

We do have our national sound bytes, of course: the men's hockey team is often in the running, or skating, for the NCAA title. Our women's field hockey team boasts several All-Americans. Although ours is community of doers, we do have an outlet for those who are looking for some serious fan-aticism. The Dog Pound is a group of, er, fans whose mission is to "hound" opposing teams by making sure the BU loyalty resonates throughout the playing venue. Dog Pound members receive their own private sections at basketball and hockey games, discounts on concessions, and more. Seriously, they’re not kidding when they call themselves fans.

  Fun Fact
Boston University colors are scarlet and white, so our mascot, Rhett, was named after the character in Gone with the Wind—because nobody loves Scarlet more than Rhett.
