Boston University has many fitness facilities to serve your
every need, many of which are new state-of-the-art facilities.
Agganis Arena
Located within Boston University's new John Hancock Student
Village—a 10-acre hub of activity designed to be the center
of student life and athletics—Agganis Arena is a state-of-the-art
sports and entertainment center which opened in January 2005.
The 290,000-square-foot venue boasts 6,300 seats for Terrier
hockey and ice shows; more than 7,200 seats are available for
concerts, sporting events, and family shows.
Fitness and Recreation Center
The Fitness and Recreation Center houses over 280,000 square
feet of flexible space and includes racquetball/squash courts,
a dance studio, a competition/lap pool with one- and three-meter
diving boards, a recreation pool, gymnasiums, an elevated jogging
track, a climbing wall, and a juice bar. In addition, the building
also boasts a wellness center; a full-service sports medicine
facility providing on-site injury treatment, rehabilitation,
and consultative services; and a weight-training and cardiovascular
conditioning center.
The Track and Tennis Center
An integral part of the new Student Village, the expansive, state-of-the-art Track and Tennis Center is designed
to be one of the best such facilities in the nation. With 60,000
square feet, it provides ample space for one of the largest
intramural sports programs in the country. Home to Boston University's
Track & Field and Tennis teams, as well as a practice venue
for other Terrier athletic teams and organizations, it houses
a fixed-bank 200-meter track, separate area for throwing events,
four tennis courts, and a 1,500-person seating capacity.
The DeWolfe Boathouse
The DeWolfe Boathouse on the Charles
River has served as the home of the Boston University men's
and women's crew teams since its formal dedication on September
23, 1999. Located on the Cambridge side of the Charles River,
the DeWolfe Boathouse has an interior and exterior balcony that
affords racing fans an excellent view of the Head of the Charles
Regatta as well as a spectacular view of the city of Boston
and the Boston University skylines.
Nickerson Field
Recently renovated, Nickerson Field boasts FieldTurf, a revolutional
synthetic grass that looks, feels, and plays like grass. In
fact, FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, has
approved Nickerson Field for international games. Nickerson
is also used for both organized sports (varsity, intramural,
and club sports) and campus-wide events. A quarter-mile track
encircles the field and can be used during open recreation hours.
Walter Brown Arena
You cannot skate the Charles, but Boston University has its very own ice-skating arena. For a few dollars and a student I.D., you can even rent skates.
Sailing
The sailing docks and boathouse are located on the Charles River
near the Boston University Bridge and are accessible by
the Marsh Chapel footbridge over Storrow Drive. The sailing
program operates from March or April through October. The program
includes physical education and
Summer Term
instructional classes and also leisure sailing and boasts a
highly competitive intercollegiate racing team.
