Diversity means being surrounded by people of different cultures where we all learn from each other, says College of Arts and Sciences junior Stephanie Nuñez, who enjoys the diversity she has found at Boston University. There are so many different people here on campus that it's impossible to not meet someone of another culture, and most people are open to new ideas and learning from their peers.
Indeed, Stephanie has dedicated herself to enhancing the learning experience that Boston Universitys diverse student body fosters. She belongs to several organizations that promote her Latin culture, including Latinos Unidos, La Fuerza, and Danzon, a traditional and contemporary Latin dance troupe.
Stephanie also contributes to multicultural recruitment and enrollment efforts at Boston University as a member of the Admissions Student Diversity Board (ASDB). I joined the ASDB because I wanted to become involved with a group that worked to make BU more diverse, she says. As a member, I help organize different activities, such as our Multicultural Weekend, phone-a-thons, high school visits, and special panels.
An emphasis on learning from and helping people not only pervades Stephanie's social interactions, but her academic studies as well. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school to become an oncologist. Stephanie believes the pairing of the challenging premed program and her psychology degree will aid her in medical school and one day, help her to become a knowledgeable and caring physician. |
