  College of General Studies
The College of General Studies (CGS) represents the first step toward earning your Boston University undergraduate degree. CGS's innovative and rigorous two-year core curriculum provides a strong liberal arts foundation for the bachelor's degree.

The 14-course curriculum, which you take in your freshman and sophomore years, prepares you for success in an increasingly cross-disciplinary world. Together with a group of your classmates—and a faculty team that represents the humanities, rhetoric, social sciences, and sciences—you will explore new intellectual terrain. You'll also fulfill the general education requirements for most of the University's undergraduate Schools and Colleges as you enter your junior year at Boston University in one of its more than 250 programs of study.
