The research opportunities at Boston University allow students
and faculty to collaborate on cutting-edge projects and provide
strong mentors for students.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) assists Boston University undergraduates who are interested in conducting research projects under the supervision and guidance of Boston University faculty members. Students may participate in the program for academic credit, for a stipend, or on a volunteer basis. All UROP research projects must be of a caliber that is worthy of academic credit and of a duration of at least one semester (or ten weeks during the summer).
The UROP Office at 143
Bay State Road publicizes and promotes faculty projects
and helps students to apply for funding, prepare research proposals,
and disseminate their research findings. Check out their website
to learn about the many research projects currently available
to students.
UROP's definition of research is broad and crosses all disciplines.
Students may participate in any scientific or scholarly activity
that leads to the production of new knowledge, increased problem-solving
capabilities (including design and analysis), or original critical
or historical theory and interpretation.
Directed Study
Academically qualified students wishing to pursue an independent research project may undertake a Directed Study program under the guidance of a faculty specialist. Directed Study projects allow students the freedom to explore an area of interest in depth while also gaining valuable research skills. Directed Study projects are also well suited for internships that have an academic foundation.
