Students at Boston University can double major within their School or College, as well as pursue two bachelor's degrees between two different Schools or Colleges through the Boston University Collaborative Degree Program (BUCOP). BUCOP is a popular option with students whose professional goals can be met by acquiring two degrees, as well as with students who have strong academic interests in disciplines that are based in two different colleges. For example, a student in the School of Management who plans on working in international business may choose to also earn a degree in a language or in International Relations in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). A graphic design student in the College of Fine Arts may also opt for a degree in Computer Science from CAS. Typically, students participating in BUCOP earn one degree from one of Boston University's professional Schools and Colleges and the other from the College of Arts and Sciences. Due to the heavy workload, an extra semester of work is sometimes required of BUCOP students.
Students can also create their own cross-disciplinary majors
through an Independent Concentration at the College
of Arts and Sciences. The Independent Concentration allows students
to design a course of study more suited to their interests and
academic goals than those already offered. Interested students
should apply as Undeclared, and after they enroll, an academic
advisor will assist them in designing their concentration. |
