College of Fine Arts Requirements
Standardized Test Requirements
Boston University does not require the SAT or ACT for applicants to the College of Fine Arts. Students may choose to submit their scores, however, if they feel they accurately reflect their academic ability.
Students applying for admission to the College of Fine Arts/College of Arts & Sciences Double Degree Programs or for any of BU’s full-tuition scholarships must submit SAT or ACT test results.
School of Music applicants in cello, double bass, flute, percussion, piano, trumpet, violin, and voice are required to submit a pre-screening recording by December 1. Exceptions include:
- Early Decision applicants
- Trustee Scholarship applicants
- Boston University Tanglewood Institute alumni

Auditions and Portfolio Reviews
Applicants to the School of Theatre, School of Music, and School of Visual Arts, with the exception of Music – Nonperformance majors, must complete an audition, submit a portfolio, or both.
