The Trustee Scholars Program
Every year, Boston University welcomes about 20 outstanding students to the Trustee Scholars program. Many of our current Scholars had perfect 4.0 grade point averages in high school, and most ranked in the top 1% of their class. However, we encourage students in the top 10% of their class to consider applying for the scholarship. While these figures are not criteria for eligibility, it’s clear that the bar is, to say the least, unusually high.
Benefits and Privileges
All Trustee Scholars receive a renewable scholarship covering full undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for up to four years. What’s harder to measure is the value of the remarkable community they join, offering a range of intellectual, cultural and social opportunities.
Trustee Scholars and distinguished members of the University—including Nobel Prize winners, prominent authors and esteemed faculty—gather regularly at a Victorian house at 25 Lenox Street for exclusive lectures by noteworthy speakers. Among recent lecturers were James Carroll, National Book Award-winning author and Boston Globe columnist; Professor David Eckel, specialist in Eastern religions and winner of the Metcalf Award for Teaching Excellence; and Maureen Raymo, paleoclimatologist/marine geologist and one of the “50 Most Important Women in Science” named by Discover Magazine.
25 Lenox Street also hosts social events, from cookouts to Halloween parties. Other group activities include trips to the Boston Ballet, the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, Red Sox games, Huntington Theatre performances and lectures at the Museum of Fine Arts.
By creating a close community of highly motivated students, the program enriches Scholars’ education and college experience. It helps them immerse themselves more fully in the cultural life of the University and city of Boston. It also supports them in the transition to campus life with special orientation sessions, peer advisors and a dedicated academic advisor.
