The Boston University student body represents all 50 states and more than 100 foreign countries. In fact, Boston University has one of the largest international student populations of any university in the United States. Total student enrollment includes just over 16,000 undergraduates. A total of 4,200 freshmen will comprise the class of 2012.

One way to get a feel for the type of student Boston University attracts is to look at the profile of admitted freshmen for the fall of 2008. Applicants to the Class of 2012 distinguish themselves through academic accomplishment and demographic diversity. From a pool of 38,004 applicants, the students admitted came from all 50 states (plus Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) as well as 104 foreign countries, and had the following academic profile:
