The City of Boston

Boston is home to more than 50 colleges and universities and is one of the world’s greatest centers of collegiate education. Living in Boston, you will experience one of the oldest cities in the US and get a firsthand glimpse of American history. There are museums, performances, restaurants, bars, clubs, and sporting activities to suit every interest and taste.

The city itself is a diverse mix of neighborhoods rich in culture–and we encourage you to explore them all. From Chinatown to the North End (Boston’s Little Italy), these unique neighborhoods are all just a short walk or T ride from BU’s campus.

Are you ready to participate in the internship of your dreams? Do you picture yourself as an analyst for Goldman Sachs, or do you want to spend a summer working with penguins at the New England Aquarium? Or maybe you hope to gain skills working for Puma, a major athletic-wear company, or the Boston Public Health Commission. With BU’s extensive connections in the heart of Boston, you’ll have access to internships that will accelerate your career. Take these two students, for example, who interned with the Boston Red Sox and the InterContinental Hotel.

Exciting Events

Boston has an array of unique events that you can’t find anywhere else. Cheer on your classmates at the Head of the Charles regatta in the fall, lace up your ice skates at the Boston Common Frog Pond when the snow starts to fall, watch the top runners in the world during the prestigious Boston Marathon, or catch one of the most famous fireworks displays in the country along the Charles River during the Independence Day celebrations. Year-round, this city is alive with unique experiences to make you feel like a true Bostonian.

Don’t forget to sign-up for BU Today, which provides students with updates on things happening on campus and around the city.

Boston is going to be delicious! Although the city is known for Boston baked beans and clam chowder, there’s a wide variety of cuisines to satisfy—and expand—your palette. BU’s campus is also home to three premier dining halls and some of the best food trucks in the city.
