Internships

At BU, an internship can be a great, hands-on way to learn more about a career field or type of job. It’s also a terrific addition to your resume, a way to make professional contacts and a valuable source of references.

Some schools and colleges at Boston University require internships as part of their curriculum. Even if yours doesn’t, you’ll probably want to consider the wealth of opportunities available—especially with so many right at your doorstep. The city of Boston offers BU students hundreds of internship positions in lab sciences, medicine, advertising and public relations, the hospitality field, art history, government, physical therapy, finance and many other disciplines.

Of course, your opportunities don’t end at the city limits. Many students spend the summer interning in their hometown. We also send student interns to countries around the world. You can read about some of their experiences here.

With so many possibilities, you may need help finding the internship that’s best for you. We can provide that too. Career Services offers one-on-one assistance, from organizing your resume to polishing your interviewing skills.

Washington Internship Programs

Want to spend a semester in the political center of the U.S.? Boston University offers two popular internship programs in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Journalism Program for journalism students combines courses on reporting with an intensive newsroom experience and a media internship. You could find yourself covering stories on Capitol Hill, at the White House or at a variety of organizations for newspapers or radio and television stations throughout New England. And you’ll get real-world experience in all aspects of journalism, from reporting and writing to editing and distribution.

The Washington Internship Program for BU students in all disciplines offers supervised internships on and off Capitol Hill. During the 14-week program, you’ll work at your internship five days a week while taking four evening classes: a course on the legislative process, an internship course and two electives.
