The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) offers two Post-Graduate Fellowships for scholars from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, or Slovakia for research in Jordan. These awards are made possible through CAORC (Council of American Overseas Research Centers) and funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Proposed topics may be in any discipline in the social sciences or humanities, and may focus on antiquity, the medieval period, or the modern era. The applicant must hold the Ph.D. degree or have equivalent experience in their field at the time of application and be a citizen of one of the above named countries. Preference will be given to those scholars with little or no experience in Jordan and the Near East.
Research topics are broadly interpreted and should contribute to scholarship in Near Eastern studies. The holders of the fellowships will reside at ACOR during their fellowship tenure. Fellows are expected to conduct full-time research and to reside in Jordan during the period of their tenure. Fellows are expected to participate in the ACOR community and to present a lecture on their research.
The fellowships will be offered for terms of three months. The award provides $11,500, which includes: $2,400 for room and board at ACOR and $9,100 for travel and stipend. An amount of $250 will be withheld from the stipend until a final report is submitted to the ACOR Director. Research should be conducted between September 1, 2008 and September 1, 2009. Applications, letters of reference and all supporting materials must be presented in English. Questions should be directed to the ACOR Boston office.
Applicants will be notified by April 15, 2008
