Research Libraries Specializing in Jordan and the Near East

The American Center of Oriental Research Library works in coordination with other libraries in the Middle East and also in other parts of the world. To facilitate the exchange of information regarding holdings of books and journals, the following information is provided about the libraries or literary resources. Where E-Mail is available the addresss is a direct link, to a message, to the organization.

A brief description of the holdings of the library are noted, where available. You are encouraged to contact the libraries directly, regarding any refrence questions. • British Institute for Archaeology and History, Amman

• German Protestant Institute, Amman

• French Institute (IFAPO), Amman

• Spanish Archaeological Mission, Amman

• Italian Institute, Amman

• Amman Public Library: Lending library of Arabic and English Books. (see telephone list)

• American Center (USIS): Library where books may be borrowed free of charge. There is also a selection of American periodicals and newspapers on microfilm. (see telephone list)

• The British Council: Located at the 1st Circle, Jabal Amman, on Rainbow Street has a lending library with a small membership fee. (see telephone list)

• The French Cultural Center: Located at Jabal Webdeh, has a circulating library-nominal fee. (see telephone list)

• The Goethe Institute: Small library of German language books. (see telephone list)

• Abdel Hameed Shoman Foundation: Located in Shmeisani. (see telephone list)

• University of Jordan, University Campus opposite the ACOR building. (see telephone list)

• Darat al-Funun (The Little House of Art): Jebel al-Webdeh, good collection on art and art. (see telephone list)
