Telephones at ACOR
Telephone service is rapidly changing in Amman. It is improving, although sometimes that seems questionable. Upgrades are constantly being completed in numerous areas. Local Amman numbers have changed from 6 digits to 7 digits. If you dial a 6 digit number, a recording will usually come on in Arabic and English (be patient) and advise you how to change the number. There is no updated English or Arabic telephone book. The Amman telephone information number is 1212.
ACOR phone # 962-6-534-6117or 962-6-533-7518 962 = Country Code (Jordan); 6 = City Code (Amman) Note: In the U.S. you dial 011 to start an international call. In most other countries, including Jordan, dial 00.
Telephones are available for your use in rooms, carrels and public areas. Dial "9" for an outside line. Calls within greater Amman are free of charge. The switchboard is open for outgoing international calls during normal business hours. Calls through the switchboard must be staff assisted and are billed. Most residents make use of mobile phones and prepaid calling cards. Incoming calls are usually answered from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. After hours the automated system will route incoming calls to your room. Your room number is also your telephone extension number.
