Darkroom

ACOR maintains and rents a darkroom for excavators and scholars to use. The darkroom is fully equipped for a 35mm darkroom, with some equipment for 120 roll and 4x5 film. The user must bring all needed chemicals, bottles to store chemicals and paper/film/consumables. ACOR does not provide any of these items.

The darkroom is equipped with:

  • Durst 606 B & W enlarger (2 1/4 x 21/4)
  • 2 1/4 glass carrier (adjusts for 35mm, with slide framing)
  • Assorted easels and speed easels, up to 11 x 14 inches
  • Enlarger timer
  • Tripods
  • Stainless steel sink, with no filter or temperature controls. Only normal valves for temperature control. Note the water is very hard and heavy in mineral content.
  • Lenses for enlarger (50mm, 75mm and 105mm Nikkor or Rhodenstock lenses)
  • Assorted trays up to 11x14 inches
  • Contact Printing Frames (8x10 inches)
  • Thermometers (3 for comparison)
  • Filter set for multigrade papers (Ilford, but works with Kodak)
  • Safelights (installed on ceiling)
  • Kodak Darkroom Data Guide (96?). Note there is no information on Ilford, Forte, or Agfa films and papers.

It is essential that you, the user, clean up all your debris and coordinate with the houskeeping staff for removal of trash and wiping down the floor after use. All counters must be wiped down and all chemical spills cleaned up. Upon departure for the final use of the darkroom, chemical bottles should be removed or the chemicals dumped out and the sink washed. All items used in the processing must also be washed, dried, and put away. Consider all the above in your planning for the darkroom use.

Note: To potential users and donors: The darkroom is in need of several items and seeks donations to support these needs. Donations of other items are also welcomed. If you are a user of the darkroom, bring something over, use it and then donate and leave it after your use.

  • Timolite Digital Enlarger Timer, 220 v, or similar brand.
  • 1 - 9 x 12 inch Safelight Filter, OC, standard orange safelight
  • Books on darkroom, photography, film processing... anything photographic. Library will receive and store most books, except darkroom data guides, and similar.
  • Good contact printer, 8x10 or 11x14, frame and glass.
  • Enlarger easel, 8x10 or 11x14 (good condition).
