Computer Services at ACOR ACOR has a common-user computer room in the basement with a Mac SE (very old, but functional) and several IBM 386/486 computers, interfaced with printers. Open ports to the printers are available for those who wish to laser print directly from their Powerbooks or laptop computers. ACOR's computers are configured with a variety of software. Some additional hardware and software is available for specialized needs. Systems use both Windiws 3.1 and Windows 95. All internet servies in Jordan require Windows 95 to use their services. As the MAC SE is functional, it is not compatibile with newer systems, so if you need MAC equipment and programs, bring your own. Much of the common user equipment is donated so the software and hardware is always changing. If you need specifics contact ACOR, Amman. Although the ACOR computer equipment is available, residents and fellows are encouraged to bring their own computers and necessary software to support their research needs. The computer assets are limited and often are in great demand. There are not sufficient resources to provide all the required support. Scheduling and cooperation is required to allow maximum utilization of the common equipment. It is not always possible to have all comuters operational. User fees (See Rate Chart)for the computers and printers are minimal, however, ACOR Fellows are not charged for use of the computers or printers. Printers available are Hewit Packard Laser IIIPS (Postscript Cartridge) and a HP Laser V. Load these drivers on your computer prior to arrival at ACOR, if you plan on using your computer with the ACOR printers. Most major manufacturers of computers have representatives and services available in Amman. There are problems in obtaining repair parts, quickly. If you need repairs to your computer, it is not always possible to conveniently and quickly get repairs finalized. Computer expertise for repair work is generally available and quite good in Amman, but you have to do all the legwork such as finding the company, the right technician, agreeing on fees, etc.
