Wildlife and Insects

The country of Jordan has a multitude of environments from rugged mountains to flat deserts. There are many animals and insects that can make the area unpleasant if you are not aware of these "local residents" of the countryside, and even in the cities. Consult your travel guides and your local medical office, if you have concerns.

Cats and dogs around ACOR and the cities/villages are not house pets. They are feral and some carry diseases. Do not play with, feed or harrass the cats. They are providing a valuable service by eliminating rodents and other large insects, but they are not a part of the household, so do not try to make them so.

No pets are authorized to be kept at ACOR. Fellows and residents cannot bring pets to the facility.
