Archaeological Expedition to Khirbet Iskander and its Vicinity, Jordan

Dates of Excavation:  23 May-June 8  2000

Description of Excavation

Khirbet Iskander is one of the few sites in the Southern Levant discovered to have occupation spanning the entire Early Bronze Age (3500- 2000 BCE). Although Iskander is best known as the only fortified EB IV site in Palestine-Transjordan, excavations in 1997 revealed monumental architecture from the urban EB II-III periods. The expedition will focus on extending horizontally the urban settlement, as well as continuing to expose more of the three phases of EB IV. The regional geological and site survey will also be a component of this summerís dig.
