LEAD, the Leadership Exploration and Academic Development Program at Boston University Academy, is a 5-week summer program for students entering 7th or 8th grade, held this year from June 29 to July 31, 2009. Boston-area students are eligible to apply for admission. LEAD is a tuition-free program; accepted students will be enrolled at no cost.

The LEAD program embodies Boston University Academy’s commitment to the neighborhoods of Boston.

LEAD was created in response to the challenges that many Boston-area children face today. Whether due to socioeconomic status, limited access to information, immigrant status, or large class sizes, these students are in need of individual attention and supplemental learning experiences that can help them fully realize their potential and develop in them a lifelong love for learning. Combining academic training with leadership development and self-advocacy skills, LEAD prepares students for successful high school and college careers.

LEAD Program Description in English and Spanish

Recognizing the developmental impact of the middle school years, LEAD identifies
ambitious and motivated sixth and seventh graders to work with over the course of two years. During this time, LEAD aims to reinforce academic skills, build self-confidence, and promote responsibility, integrity, and leadership.
