Community Service

Community ServiceThe Academy’s Service Program emphasizes civic responsibility, encourages lifelong civic engagement, and inspires personal growth.  Through public service, Academy students develop as leaders who have a deeper understanding of themselves and a broader awareness of their communities.

Awareness and Education

Outreach and awareness efforts are focused on nine different issue areas: Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Homelessness & Housing, Human Rights, and Hunger.  Although monthly educational programming will vary, the Community Service Program is committed to organizing a school-sponsored service project for Academy students, faculty, and families each month.

Service Requirements

All Academy students are required to complete 20 hours of service for each year that they are enrolled. For more information, please visit the community service web site at http://www.buachemistry.com/1service/.

Everyone in the Academy community – students, faculty and staff, families, and alums – are invited and encouraged to participate. Please e-mail us at service@buacademy.org for more information about our program and its requirements, or to get involved.
