Registering at Shaw’s can help the Robotics Team
If you haven’t yet registered your Shaw’s rewards card online or by phone, it’s easy to do.
To register, just use this link or call 1-877-932-7948.
You’ll need (1) your Rewards Card number; (2) a telephone number.
Once registered, the BUA Robotics Team will receive 1% of any shopping you do at any Shaw’s or Star Market on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. It’s all tabulated automatically once you’re registered. And anyone can sign up, so feel free to extend the offer to friends and family. One reminder, if you registered for this program prior to receiving the new Shaw’s rewards card (for gas pump use), you will need to update your information. You can do this by calling the 877 number above.
For registering, the name of our organization is “Trustees of Boston University Robot” and our Community Rewards ID# is 49001023210
Academy Advising Program for 2009-2010
This year, the Academy faculty and staff have reviewed our academic advising program. Some of the challenges we face in our current model include how best to advise our students in the University setting as well as how best to help our students adjust to life at the Academy in areas such as study skills and time management.
Beginning in the 2009-2010 Academic year, therefore, the Academy’s advising program will be structured so that a faculty member will advise a group of 9th and 10th grade students or a group of 11th and 12th grade students. Students will be assigned an academic advisor for 9th and 10th grade; for 11th and 12th grade advising, students will express a preference for advisor across the team of teachers, though we shall determine final placement.
The goal of advising in the 9th and 10th grades will be to help the students adjust to the academic rigors and community of the Academy. This goal will be met through weekly group meetings. The goal of advising in the 11th and 12th grades will be to help the students meet the demands of the University while maintaining a connection to the Academy. This goal will be met through regular individual meetings with the advisor as well as group meetings with the College Counseling office.
In order to assign advisors for the coming year, all current students will be allowed to express preference. Where it makes sense and is possible for a student to remain with a current advisor, we shall continue that relationship, unless other factors suggest a change would work better. An announcement concerning advisor assignments will be included with grades and comments being mailed on Wednesday, June 17.
We are excited for this growth in our advising program. Change can be unsettling for families and students, though the connections between faculty and students will continue to be strong and supportive.
If you have any questions about these changes, please email Michelle Cannon, Karen Foy, JT Duck, or Maureen Hurley.
