Application Timeline and Instructions

Although the Academy’s regular admission deadline has passed, we occasionally find ourselves with the ability to consider late applications during the spring and summer for families who are moving from out of town or who have extenuating circumstances. Families should be aware that next year’s financial aid budget has already been allocated, and therefore there are extremely limited funds available to late applicants.

Please alert Nicole White in the Admission Office (617-358-2493) if your family is interested in discussing the necessary steps involved with submitting a late application.

BUA_PORTA_v2

PORTA | BU Academy’s Online Application System
PORTA provides families with a quick and easy way to navigate the application process. Among other benefits, PORTA makes the application process faster and easier by allowing families to submit the Preliminary Application online and view the current status of each application item. PORTA will reopen later this summer for those families interested in applying to the Academy for the 2013-2014 academic year.

September through January

– Call the Admission Office (617-358-2493) to schedule a tour and an interview. Prospective students are also encouraged to extend their visit to experience a day in the life of a BUAer.

– Submit a Preliminary Application form (preferably through PORTA) and $45 application fee prior to the interview. Morning and afternoon interviews are offered Monday-Friday (when school is in session) from October to January. Families who submit a Preliminary Application by January 1 will be guaranteed an interview, after which interviews will only be granted if space is available. Please call the Admission Office if the application fee is a hardship for your family.

Families should note their intent to apply for financial aid on the Preliminary Application. Boston University Academy utilizes the School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS) in determining all of our need-based grants. Financial aid applications are submitted directly to SSS.

– Register to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) in October, November, December, or January. BUA’s SSAT code is 1761.

– International applicants must also register to take the TOEFL—code 4622 and confirm that at least one parent is also planning to move to the Boston area while the student is enrolled.

October through December

– Attend an Open House to learn more about the Academy’s rigorous academics, nurturing community, connections with Boston University, student life, and financial aid program. Teachers, students, and current parents will on hand to talk about their Academy experience.
