College Counseling
By design, the Academy’s College Office seeks to advise, empower, and nurture students in preparation for their transition to higher education. Students and families are given individualized attention and access to the following services and programs:
Individual College Counseling Meetings
Available to each junior and senior through scheduled appointments and an open door policy. Seniors work with counselors during the fall semester to finalize college lists, prepare for interviews, draft essays, and coordinate applications; official advising meetings for juniors and their families begin as early as January.
Weekly Group Meetings for Juniors and Seniors
Small group meetings keep students on target during the process. Students are reminded about impending deadlines and discuss topics relating to the transition to higher education and more broadly – adulthood.
Direct Access to College Admissions Officers
The Academy hosts between 35 and 50 college representatives from the US and abroad throughout the year.
College Information Nights
Periodic events for the entire school community including past parents and Academy alumni.
University Advising and Course Registration
Juniors and seniors receive support in selecting University coursework to ensure appropriate challenges and a strong foundation from which to build on in college.
Extensive Resources
Students and parents are given the practical assistance and necessary information to make appropriate choices for post-Academy plans. Access to information on specific schools, current trends in college admissions, and SAT/ACT test preparation materials to readily available.
The College Office uses Naviance, a web-based planning and advising system, to assist and organize students in the admissions process. Naviance provides application maintenance, student and parent surveys, college information, journal entries, and statistical information about admission and is the primary form of communication between students and counselors about their college list.
More detailed information and announcements from the College Counseling Office are available on the College Counseling Resources pages.
