History

HistoryFounded in 1993 under the auspices of former President of Boston University Dr. John Silber and the University Board of Trustees, Boston University Academy has always been a place where bright, talented students can take advantage of the resources of a world-class research university. With the inaugural class of eight students graduating in 1997, the Academy was well on its way to being recognized as a high-caliber college preparatory school in the competitive Boston secondary school landscape.

In the fall of 1998, the Academy opened its doors to 11 ambitious eighth graders, expanding its academic program to younger students. However, after seven years of serving students in grades 8 through 12, the Academy decided in 2005 to discontinue the middle school program and to focus on what it does best – provide the most intellectually invigorating classroom dynamic for students at the high school level who are ready for college-level work.

Since 2004, the Academy has enrolled over 150 students per year. As part of the current Strategic Plan, the Academy hopes to continue to grow – in physical space, faculty, and students – to provide an even more enriching and nurturing intellectual experience to its students.
