Academy Parent Receives MacArthur “Genius” Award

MAHADEVAN-PROFILEAmong the 24 recipients of this year’s prestigious MacArthur Fellowship is L. Mahadevan P’13. The new Fellows represent a variety of disciplines and work across a broad spectrum of endeavors.  Dr. Mahadevan, the Lola England de Valpine Professor of Applied Mathematics and Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University investigates principles underlying complex systems that are found in such accessible, but perplexing, questions as how flags flutter, why skin wrinkles, and how flowers bloom.

Commonly known as MacArthur “genius” grants, Fellowships provide recipients with a no-strings-attached $500,000 stipend over the next five years.Grants are rewards for not for past accomplishments, but rather investments in future insights and achievements. The Fellowship is made possible by the support of The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Dr. Mahadevan will speak on growth and form at the All-School Meeting on Thursday, April 29. As is the case with every ASM, all members of the Academy community are welcome to attend.
