Minor in Math Education
The Mathematics Education minor is an opportunity for undergraduate students across the University to explore an interest in the teaching and learning of mathematics. The minor offers courses in mathematics education policy and content as well as opportunities to work with students in grades K–12. Students completing the minor will develop an understanding of the issues impacting mathematics education as well as specialized knowledge focused on the teaching of mathematics. The minor does not prepare students for licensure as a mathematics teacher. A selection of these courses satisfy BU Hub requirements.
Requirements for the Minor
Students are required to complete the following 18 credits of mathematics education core courses. Those interested in mathematics teaching at the elementary grades should take ME 503 instead of ME 360 and ME 504 instead of ME 559.

- SED ME 360 Mathematics for Teaching: Algebra (4 cr) or SED ME 503 Mathematical Reasoning in the Elementary Grades: Number and Operations
- SED ME 363 Problem Solving in Mathematics (4 cr)
- SED ME 530 Equitable Pedagogies in STEM Education (2 cr)
- SED ME 559 Mathematics for Teaching: Geometry (4 cr) or SED ME 504 Mathematical Reasoning in the Elementary Grades: Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics
