School of Education
The School of Education provides comprehensive teacher preparation to students interested in educating children, adolescents, and adults alike. Undergraduates earning the Bachelor of Science degree begin with a solid liberal arts foundation, eventually specializing in a professional field like early childhood education, elementary education, bilingual education, or physical education. Graduate programs offer specialized work in more than 20 areas of education—preschool; higher education; special needs; policy, planning, and administration in schools; and in the corporate sector—through the Master of Education degree, the Master of Arts in Teaching degree, the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, and the Doctor of Education degree.
Features:
- The International Educational Development Program takes students to distant countries including Brazil, Nepal, and Vietnam, where they get hands-on training in the development and implementation of educational programs for cultural, social, and economic progress.
- The Preschool at Boston University is an innovative laboratory and demonstration school, where students observe children and teachers in a real educational setting.
- The School of Education is home to four educational centers: the Boston University Center for the Advancement of Ethics & Character, the Center for the Study of Communication & the Deaf, and the Center for School Improvement.
- The Journal of Education, published by the School of Education, is the oldest continuously published journal in the field of education.
- A unique partnership with the Chelsea Public Schools and other departments within the University provides managerial and educational expertise in rebuilding and reforming an entire urban school system.
- The School of Education's consortium with school systems, social service agencies, and overseas universities offers students teaching, school-based counseling, and administrative intern opportunities.
