Minor in Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences

The minor in Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences is offered to undergraduate students at Boston University wishing to develop their knowledge about human communication sciences and disorders. The minor is particularly relevant for students who are considering graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology. Students are required to have a GPA of 2.0 or higher to qualify for a minor in speech, language & hearing sciences and must receive a grade of C– or better in each course to complete this minor.

The minor consists of the following five courses (20 credits total):

• SAR SH 110 Introduction to Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (previously offered as SAR SH 531)
• SAR SH 220 Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech Mechanism  (previously offered as SAR SH 522)
• SAR SH 221 Phonetics
• SAR SH 230 Language Acquisition (previously offered as SAR SH 524)
• SAR SH 240 Introduction to Audiology (previously offered as SAR SH 535)

Note: There are no prerequisites for any of the minor courses; however, it is recommended that students take SH 110 first and take SH 220 before SH 221.
