BA/MA

The BA/MA program, offered jointly by the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the College of Arts & Sciences, enables qualified students entering the junior year to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies concurrently. Students must apply before March 1 of their junior year. Seniors may not apply. Students receive both the BA and the MA degrees simultaneously and only after completing both programs. Since two diplomas are issued, students must file an application to graduate with each college. Deadlines for the MA applications are found in Admissions.

Further information is available in the Program section of the College of Arts & Sciences Academics website. Details of individual programs can be requested from the BA/MA advisor in each department. Applications are available at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, 705 Commonwealth Avenue, Suite 112, Boston, MA 02215.

In most cases, the BA/MA program restricts major fields of study to those fields in which the MA is offered in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Be aware that the BA/MA program is limited to certain areas of study and is not available in all programs. A second major field of study for the BA portion of the program is allowed only upon approval of the Associate Dean of the Graduate School.

The BA/MA program is restricted to students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences. Students enrolled in other undergraduate colleges at Boston University must apply for an intra-University transfer into the College of Arts & Sciences before making an application to this program. The BA/MA program is not available to Boston University Dual Degree Program students.
