Graduate Certificate Programs

Graduate certificate programs offered through BU’s College of Engineering offer professionals the opportunity to develop advanced-level expertise in a focused area of study and are ideal for those who either cannot commit to a full degree program, or who already have an advanced degree and are looking for additional technical training. Certificates are offered in the following areas under the umbrella of the Department of Mechanical Engineering:

  • Engineering Innovation
  • Energy & Sustainability
  • Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS)
  • Product Design

These fast-track programs only require students to complete 12 credits (three courses), and students may attend classes in person or via Distance Learning for Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. Courses completed for certificate programs can also be used to satisfy applicable requirements for Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree programs, and current MEng, MS, and PhD students can also earn certificates as they fulfill the requirements.

Program Requirements

  • BS in engineering or a related technical field
  • Satisfy specific course prerequisites or obtain instructor consent
  • Complete 12 credits of pre-selected graduate level courses (three courses)
  • Maintain an average GPA of 3.0

Engineering Innovation

  • Promotes and recognizes acquired graduate-level expertise in the area of engineering innovation, including technology ventures, intellectual asset management and development, and product development and strategies.

Energy & Sustainability
