Academic Load

College of Communication Policy

COM students with sophomore or junior standing who are in good academic standing may overload up to 20 credits in the fall or spring semesters. COM sophomores and juniors who are in good academic standing and have an overall GPA below a 3.0 will be charged for any credits above 18.

COM sophomores and juniors who are in good academic standing and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher will not be charged up to 20 credits.

COM seniors can overload up to 20 credits without additional charge, regardless of overall GPA.

COM first-year students and first-semester external transfer students are not allowed to overload above 18 credits.

COM students who are also in Kilachand Honors College are able to overload up to 20 credits without being charged extra.

For summer term, students who wish to overload more than 16 credits total, or more than 8 credits in one summer session, should speak with COM Undergraduate Affairs.

Graduate students must check with their departments to make sure they qualify to overload beyond 18 credits.
