Turkish

Turkish courses (CAS LT) are for students who seek to become proficient in Turkish language and culture. Our teaching of Turkish is standards based, emphasizing the acquisition of proficiency in all four skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Textbook learning is supplemented with authentic materials ranging from advertisements to news clips and feature films.

The first four semesters give students a solid foundation in grammar and culture and a robust vocabulary with which they can continue to content-based classes. A fifth-semester content course taught entirely in Turkish is offered on a need basis.

Coursework in Turkish may be counted toward fulfillment of requirements for Muslim Studies minors as well as for the major in Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Studies.

Through Boston University’s Study Abroad and Internship Programs, students may enroll in programs at Bogazici University and Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey. Students of Turkish at Boston University have gone on to related employment in the private and public sector and to prestigious graduate programs in the US and in Turkey.

Turkish language courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Successful completion of CAS LT 212 fulfills the College of Arts & Sciences foreign language requirement.
