Topic for Spring 2017: Romanticism & Revolution: the Poetry, Painting, and Music of Italy's Search for Nationhood, 1788-1861. Italian and non-Italian literature, painting, and music of the Risorgimento. Studying, among others, Alfieri, Verdi, Shelley, Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, we examine Romantic ideas of revolution as Italy seeks independence and modern statehood. Taught in Italian.
