Arts of Gender

Examines representations of gender and sexuality in diverse art forms, including drama, dance, film, and literature, and how art reflects historical constructions of gender. Topic for Fall 2017: Gender and Life Writing. Explores gender and "life writing," a term used by Virginia Woolf, in diverse forms including lyric essay, memoir and graphic memoir, poetry, fiction, biography, and visual portraits. Writers and artists may include Woolf, Bechdel, Didion, Kincaid, Nelson, Rankine, Arbus, Kahlo, Mann, Walker.
