Tuscany Landscape Painting Program (Summer)
The Tuscany Landscape Painting Program offers both painting majors and non-majors the opportunity to spend six weeks studying landscape painting on the estate of Capitignano in Tuscany overlooking the olive groves and vineyards of the Mugello Valley. Capitignano is beautifully situated on a hillside offering breathtaking views of the Tuscan landscape. It is an unparalleled setting for painters.
Program Curriculum
Required Course
Note: Syllabi are for course approval and reference only. Students will receive up-to-date syllabi when their courses begin.
Students are required to take this course:
CFA AR 426: Landscape Painting (4 credits)
Students will paint in oil colors, although in individual cases students may substitute acrylic paint. Students are encouraged to bring watercolor supplies for work on their own. Previous painting experience is required. Syllabus
Elective Courses
Students choose one of the following electives:
CAS AH 257: Renaissance Art (4)
This course examines the history of painting, sculpture, and architecture in Tuscany from 1250 to 1505. The course will focus on master works of Italian painting, sculpture, and architecture which constitute major contributions to Western art. Syllabus
CAS LI 111/112: First/Second-Semester Italian (4)
(Student enrollments determine which courses will be taught.)
CAS LI 111: (For beginners only.) Grammar, conversation practice, written exercises and compositions. Conducted in Italian.
CAS LI 112: (Prerequisite: one semester of college level Italian or placement exam result.) Grammar, conversation practice, written exercises and compositions. Conducted in Italian. Syllabus

Program Faculty & Staff
The Boston University Tuscany program is administered by staff in both our Boston and Tuscany offices. In Boston, a program manager facilitates the admissions and pre-departure procedures, and maintains contact with students prior to their arrival in Tuscany. The Boston office also houses administrative personnel who are responsible for everyday operations. In Tuscany, the staff comprises a program director.
