Level IA: Intensive Spanish Language Studies
Students enroll in an intensive Spanish language curriculum that allows for the completion of two semesters of Spanish in six weeks. Level IA students enroll in both of the following courses:
CAS LS 211 Third-Semester Spanish
Prerequisite: CAS LS 112, second-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Review structures of Spanish language. Intensive practice of spoken language. Readings in Hispanic culture. Frequent written assignments. 4 cr.
CAS LS 212 Fourth-Semester Spanish
Prerequisite: CAS LS 211, third-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Continuation of CAS LS 211. Review and practice of the structures of Spanish. Intensive practice of spoken language. Readings in Hispanic culture. Frequent written assignments. 4 cr.

Level IB: Intensive Spanish Language and Liberal Arts Studies
Students enroll in an intensive Spanish language course and complement this with coursework on art in the museums of Madrid. Level IB students enroll in the following courses.
CAS LS 303 Composition and Conversation in Spanish I
Prerequisite: CAS LS 212, fourth-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Skill development in spoken and written language. Grammar review, vocabulary building, and frequent written work. 4 cr.
CAS SP 300 Art in the Museums of Madrid
Prerequisite: CAS LS 212, fourth-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Spanish paintings from the 15th to 20th centuries in relation to its Flemish and Italian antecedents. 4 cr.

Level II: Advanced Studies
Level II complements language study with one liberal arts course. Students choose two of the following courses. Due to course scheduling, students cannot enroll in both CAS SP 302 and CAS SP 400.
CAS LS 304 Composition and Conversation in Spanish II
Prerequisite: CAS LS 303, fifth-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Skill development in spoken and written language. Grammar review, vocabulary building, and regular written work. Literature and Spanish culture. Griffin. 4 cr. Syllabus
CAS SP 300 Art in the Museums of Madrid
(See description under Level IB) 4 cr.
CAS SP 302 Topics in Contemporary Spanish Culture
Prerequisite: CAS LS 303, fifth-semester college-level Spanish, or the equivalent. Explores the major social, political, economic, and artistic trends in Spain since the end of the Franco dictatorship, with a focus on the country’s emergence as a key player in Europe and the world. 4 cr.
CAS SP 400 Topics in Hispanic Literature
Prerequisite: CAS LS 350 Introduction to Analysis of Hispanic Texts, or the equivalent. A close reading and discussion of twentieth-century writers from Spain and Spanish America. 4 cr.
