Haifa Language & Liberal Arts Program

The Haifa Language & Liberal Arts Program offers a semester or year in the vibrant and cosmopolitan Mediterranean port of Haifa, Israel. The program combines language study with other coursework at the University of Haifa and excursions in Israel.

There is also an opportunity for students to participate in an internship while studying in Haifa. Placements may vary according to students’ interests, background, and language abilities. Internships have been offered in such fields as medical services, archaeology, education, public relations, social work, conflict resolution, and women’s studies.

Pre-Semester Option

So that students can get the most out of their time in Israel, Boston University and the University of Haifa can often offer students opportunities to live in Israel and gain credit before the regular semester begins at no additional cost. These opportunities vary from semester to semester, but may include a study tour, intensive beginning Arabic language program, or an Ulpan (intensive Hebrew language program). Requirements	One semester or more of college-level Hebrew or Arabic language, or the equivalent, is suggested Admissions requirements for all programs
Program Dates	Fall Semester: August 3, 2013 to January 3, 2014 Spring Semester: mid January to early June Depart U.S.: January 26, 2013 Program Arrival: January 27, 2013 Depart Israel: June 7, 2013
Cost	2013/2014 Tuition and Fees: $26,450 Cost includes tuition, housing, airfare from designated U.S. cities, field trips, overseas medical insurance, and emergency travel assistance coverage. The cost for 2014/2015 has not yet been announced and will be subject to approval by the Board of Trustees at Boston University. Download an estimated program budget, including cost of living expenses. Financial aid is available.
Credits	Upon successful completion of the program, students earn sixteen to twenty Boston University credits. Students must enroll for a minimum of sixteen credits.
Housing	Boston University’s Haifa Program is administered by the International School of the University of Haifa. It provides academic and social programs for international students to ease their integration into the university community and to acquaint them with the peoples and cultures of Israel. The program is small, offers a wide variety of courses, and provides tutorials and guidance counseling. While at the University of Haifa, students live with Israeli students in fully equipped dormitory suites in the new Residence Hall Village.

Program Faculty & Staff

The Boston University Haifa Program is administered by staff in both our Boston and Haifa offices. In Boston, a program manager facilitates the admissions and pre-departure procedures, and maintains contact with students prior to their arrival in Haifa. The Boston office also houses administrative personnel who are responsible for everyday operations. In Haifa, the staff comprises a resident director and administrative, academic, and housing personnel.
