Host Institution
Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)
The Technische Universität Dresden is one of the oldest and most prestigious technical universities in Germany. Its name now only partially describes its mission, however. Since German reunification, the TUD has doubled in size by incorporating a full array of humanities, social sciences, and "pure" science departments as well. Please visit www.tu-dresden.de for more information.

Dresden Engineering Program

Spring semester only: February 1st to July 18-22nd, 2009

(All courses are taught in English)

This program is offered during the spring semester and is designed for engineering students who wish to combine engineering coursework in English with the study of German. It is further designed to fit neatly into engineering students’ existing curriculum and requirements. After completing the intensive German-language course, engineering students will choose three out of six courses at TUD—Differential Equations, Electric Circuit Theory, Waves and Modern Physics, Linear Algebra, Principles of Molecular Cell Biology and Biotechnology—and will also take The Social Nature of Technology. These courses are all approved by Boston University’s College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences. Students also participate in field trips to research institutions, technical museums, and companies to gain insight into the past, the present, and the future of engineering technologies. Dresden Internship Program

Fall Semester: August 18th to December 20-22nd, 2008
Spring Semester: February 1st to July 18-22nd, 2009

Students who have advanced German language skills may participate in Boston University´s Dresden Internship Program. The program combines language study and coursework with a professional internship, and is ideal for those students who want insight into the German culture outside the academic world. Students enrolled in this option choose an internship in the place of one of their university courses. After completing the intensive four-credit German-language and cultural-immersion course (CAS GE 300), students are placed in their internships. Students begin their internships during week nine and continue to work for an average of 30 hours a week. They also enroll in two or more courses at the TUD and attend three to four faculty directed sessions on the academic component of their internship. During the final week of the program, students attend a capstone seminar in which they deliver the final presentations on their academic internship projects.

Internship placements vary according to students’ interests, backgrounds, previous work experiences, and language abilities. Most internships are offered in business, television, human services, international relations and theater; however, the program provides opportunities in a variety of disciplines, so students from all majors are encouraged to apply. German faculty teach all TUD courses. Upon successful completion of a semester, students earn 16-20 Boston University credits.

Spring Semester: February 1st to July 18-22nd, 2009

This program is designed for students who wish to enroll directly in a German university, and who want to take advantage of the wide range of university courses offered by Technische Universität Dresden. During the first weeks of the program (prior to the start of the TUD semester), students enroll in a four-credit intensive language and cultural immersion course. Students then enroll in three elective courses at the TUD and finish the semester as regular students of the University.
