Boston University Study Abroad shares the difficult news that Study Abroad locations in Auckland, New Zealand; Dresden, Germany; Grenoble, France; and Quito, Ecuador will be closing. These decisions are the result of a thorough and data-driven review of BU Study Abroad programs in the wake of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 crisis. The review assessed such factors as enrollment trends, challenges related to the pandemic, and each site’s capacity to align with the long-term strategic priorities of the University, among others.

We are sorry if you were interested in or planning to apply for one of the now closed locations. We understand first-hand how transformative and powerful study abroad experiences can be, and we hope you will find another study abroad program that is exciting and academically fulfilling.

We are committed to working with students who may have been interested in Auckland, Dresden, Grenoble, or Quito and encourage you to discuss alternate program options with our Study Abroad Office and your advisor. The Finder tool is also a good way to search by subject area and location.

We recognize that you and many others in our community may find this news difficult. We, too, feel deeply for the students, staff, faculty, and alumni of our affected programs. Please contact us at if you have questions or need assistance finding a suitable alternate program that meets your personal and academic goals.
