Dr. Andrew Field holds a PhD in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University (2001) and has taught at the University of Puget Sound (2001-2002) and at the University of New South Wales in Sydney (2002-2007). He is an accomplished researcher, scholar, and documentarian of China’s modern and contemporary urban culture. His publications include Shanghai’s Dancing World: Cabaret Culture and Urban Politics 1919-1954 and he is the co-author of the forthcoming book Shanghai Nightscapes: Nightlife, Sexuality, and Globalization in the Metropolis, 1912-2012. He is also a director/producer of independent documentary films on arts, music, and culture in China; his most recent film is Down: Indie Rock in the PRC.
