Zanzibar: Religion, Politics, and Identity in East Africa
Timothy Longman is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Boston University, as well as the Director of the African Studies Center. He has also taught in the International Human Rights Exchange at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and at the National University of Rwanda. From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Longman served as director of the field office of Human Rights Watch in Rwanda. His research focuses on state-society relations in East Africa, concentrating on the politics of religion, ethnicity, race, and gender and on human rights.
