Nelson Gayton is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Entertainment Management Institute, a global “think tank” for knowledge development in the media and entertainment industries.  In this role, he manages all industry relationships, including the development of an experiential and interdisciplinary curriculum in partnership with industry sponsors and the incubation of new media enterprises.  Prof. Gayton has also served as Founder/Executive Director of the Center for Managing Enterprises in Media, Entertainment & Sports (MEMES) at UCLA Anderson and Founder/Managing Director and Adjunct Professor at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  He continues to serve as General Partner for Crayon Ventures – a venture management firm with interests in entertainment, technology and education.

Prior to founding Crayon Ventures, he served as Special Assistant to the CEO of Sony Pictures, leading divisional synergy opportunities in film, television, music and computer entertainment, and assisting in the development of feature films such as Last Action Hero, First Knight and Wolf, just to name a few.  Prof. Gayton has also written and produced a number of award-winning, short films and screenplays, and is serving as the Executive Producer of Domino Park, an independent feature film staring internationally-acclaimed actors, Reynaldo Miravalles (The Water Carrier) and Miguel Gutierrez (Bitter Sugar). Prof. Gayton holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a MFA in Film Production from the UCLA Graduate School of Film and BSM from Tulane University.  He remains a frequent speaker, panelist and jury member at film conferences, festivals and universities, including UCLA and NYU, and currently teaches modern media ventures, including design thinking in business innovation at Boston University’s MS/MBA Modern Media Ventures Program.
