Dr. Anne Matthews is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing, Dublin City University. Prior to that she worked as a health professional (nurse and midwife), in healthcare policy and as a health researcher, in Ireland and Malawi. She has a BSocSc (Social Policy, Information Studies) from University College Dublin (1995) and a MSc (Econ.) in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1996). Her PhD examined “Past and present perspectives on power and empowerment in midwifery in Ireland” (2006). Her research interests are in health policy analysis, health workforce planning and systematic reviewing of the effectiveness of maternity and other healthcare interventions. Her teaching interests are in health policy, complementary and alternative therapies and research methods. She has co-edited two books on Irish social policy and has published policy and research articles in her areas of interest and experience.
