TRANSFERRING FILES ON ACS
INTRODUCTION
Information Technology maintains a variety of
facilities for the transfer of files to/from ACS and other systems
or media such as tape
and disk.
These include:
- Help Desk I/O Station. This facility, located at the 111 Cummington
Street Help desk,
supports the following media:
- 150 Mb QIC 1/4" tape cartridge
- 5.0 or 2.3 Gb EXABYTE 8mm data tape cartridge
- 1.44Mb or 720 Kb 3.5" diskette
- I/O Window Facility. This facility,
also located at
111 Cummington St., can be used to read
data from tapes created on other systems, including:
- nine track tapes at 1600 and
6250 bpi (read only)
- 3480 tape cartridges (read only)
This facility is read only, i.e., once the files are transferred, they
must be kept on some other medium such as 8mm tape or diskette.
- Macintosh and PC file transfer stations.
The Help Desk and the Personal Computing Support Center, both
located at 111 Cummington St., maintain stations for Macintosh,
DOS, and Windows files transfer.
In addition, you can use FTP on ACS, or a variety of
programs such as Fetch, WS_FTP, Netscape, etc.
on your local system
to transfer files
to/from ACS and a networked PC, Macintosh, or other external system.
