Through the Lens: Peter Simon (COM’70) and Your Generation

Nationally acclaimed photojournalist, author, and music historian Peter Simon presents his photographic work and discusses the life and culture of the Class of 1970’s generation. Mr. Simon’s presentation will include images captured during his time as photo editor of the BU News, work from his book I and Eye (Bulfinch, 2001), and other shots of major figures, events, locations, and lifestyles—both in the mainstream and the counterculture—spanning the past forty years.

Service of Remembrance

Join fellow alumni and friends in a in a service of reflection to remember the triumphs and tragedies of 1970, as well as to honor deceased members of the BU Class of 1970. Officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Allan Hill, Dean of Marsh Chapel, the service will include music and memories from the era.

Enjoy a warm and inviting cocktail reception for the members of the Class of 1970 and their guests, while perusing the exhibits in the University’s Archives. The Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center captures and documents history by collecting the manuscripts from individuals who play a significant part in the fields of journalism, poetry, literature and criticism, dance, music, theater, film, television, and political and religious movements. At this special viewing, explore photographs, documents and other memorabilia from the 1960s and 1970s as well as “A Retrospective Exhibition of the Life and Work of Bette Davis” and the very special Martin Luther King, Jr., GRS’55, exhibition. Walk across the stage and be recognized individually at this formal convocation for the Class of 1970. Complimentary breakfast reception to follow.

The 137th Commencement of Boston University*

Join the Class of 2010 in the academic procession, then be seated in a special section among graduating students to take part in the ceremony, which will include a tribute to the Class of 1970.
